Born in Belfast started in the 60s playing saxophone with The Monarchs (One 45  German CBS) touring the US Army Clubs
in Germany..back home in Irland he formed  the greatest 60s R& B  THEM which lasted with many lineup changes from
1963 till 1967 recording some more tracks in the netherlands helped by CUBY & The BLIZZARDS.
With a new contract  on B.Berns  BANG label, he started solo..releasing the classic song "Brown Eyed Girl".
Van had trouble with Berns, to get free from the contract he recorded some awfull songs..some you'll here too.
With new label Warner Brothers he released some fantastic altime great LPs like: "ASTRAL WEEKS"; "MOONDANCE" and
the Live Double  "Its Too Late To Stop Now". More very good albums followed till today, like " Veedon Fleece" & 
"The Common One"  + "Avalon Sunset" for the Mercury Label  etc. etc.
