Release 2010
Born 1944 in Canada he joined DENNY DOHERTY band the HALIFAX THREE, he had
played the folk-coffee-house scene before.
In 1964 they formed together with CASS ELLIOT and JAMES (Jim) HENDRICKS the
MUGWUMPS playing kind of Folk-Pop, it was not at the right time, so only 1 single got
a release...an album followed in 1967 long after the group had vanished.
Cass & Denny joined the MAMAS & PAPAS and Zal became a founding member of
the LOVIN SPOONFUL (1965-1967).
ZAL split from the band in 1967, his loneley solo album (psychedelised pop & folk-songs
of his childhood ) went nowhere.
So he and his partner JERRY YESTER went into producing with artist like:
TIM BUCKLEY ; JUDY HENSKE or FIFTH AVENUE BAND.
He was part in some LOVIN SPOONFUL Re-unions and played with JOHN SEBASTIAN
some times. He died in Dec. 2002.
