Founding member and main songwriter of progressive band VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR in 1968.
He released his first solo album (Fools Mate)  in 1971 with mainly short poprock songs, which changed
from 2nd solo release onwards - he got into experiments.
Hammill wrote some books too.
