Southafrica born multi-instrumentalist and songwriter started in the early 60s with his band The DUKES which changed name to
J.KONGOS & The G MEN (incl. Hank Squires & Robbie Kearney = founding members of the A-CADS).
The band released around 6 LPs and many successful singles in Southafrica.
Kongos went to the UK first in 1963 and again in 1966, when he signed a recording contract.
Recording under own name and group names like FLORIBUNDA ROSE & SCRUGG, some great popsike singles.
His first album for the Dawn label in 1969 is included on this CD too.
In the beginning 70s he charted in the UK Top 10 with: "He's Gonna Step On You Again" and "Tokoloshe Man".
Some of his songs are recorded by JOHNNY CLEGG & HAPPY MONDAYS
