Started with school-group JOHN STEWART & The FURIES before joining the CUMBERLAND THREE, a folkband
with whom he recorded 3 LPs. In 1961 he got a offer to replace Dave Guard in the already well known folkband
the KINGSTON TRIO which lasted over 12 albums till split in 1967.
He recorded an LP with his later wife BUFFY FORD in 1968 for Capitol.
He started his solo carreer recorded for Capitol, Warner Bros. and RCA, but first went successful by end of 1979
on the RSO (R.Stigwood) label with a Top 5 chart entry from the song GOLD.
In the 90s till his death in 2008 he produced some great albums for his own label and concentrated on songwriting.
Rosanna Cash, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Nanci Griffiths or Joan Baez are some of the artists who recorded his songs.
