In Germany since the late 60s, when he arrived with his band STONEWALL.
He joined german band ASTERIX,  formerly known as GERMAN BONDS or PINK MICE or or, which became
in turn LUCIFERS FRIEND. One of the best german progressive hardrock bands, sometimes remembers
in the beginning on LED ZEPPELIN, on 4th and 5th album they integrate  more classical influences.
The first LPs are released in USA and scratched on the lower parts of the USA charts, touring was not possible
because some of the musicians had contracts with the ORCHESTER JAMES LAST.
Lawton was active at the same time with the LES HUMPRIES SINGER too and released a looked after solo
LP on RCA , before joining URIAH HEEP ...singing on their hit : FREE ME.
After his stint with URIAH HEEP he recorded three LPs with south german band ZAR, one album with
KEN HENSLEYand some productions with the JOHN LAWTON BAND followed.
